  • "KAI LENNY 4 SPORTS FOR 1 DAY"

A massive southern hemisphere swell cut its path through the Islands of the South Pacific. On August 30th, 2011 the swell made landfall in Hawaii, marking the last day of Hawaiian Summer.

Hawaii based OXBOW Progression Team rider and SUP World Champion Kai Lenny (18 years old), tracked the swell with precision to his secret spot. He raced through the day against time and odds to be the first athlete ever to tackle 4 sports in one day (Surfing, SUP, Windsurfing and Kitesurfing), in 15-20 foot waves. This day made its mark in the history books as the largest south swell to hit the Hawaiian Islands in 15 years, and cemented Kai Lenny's position as one of the world most versatile ocean athletes.
The OXBOW Production Crew captured Kai's amazing day in detail. The 46 second teaser shows a glimpse of Kai's performance with a Paparrazi style twist. In the spirit of "catch me if you can," Kai moves with lightning speed through his day.

Being no match for the cameras, Kai's ocean performance speaks for itself.

  • Kai Lenny is making history - his way. Having adopted the sport of SUP at the beginning, when he was less than ten years old, Kai Lenny has taken the bull by the horns and truly changed the sport.

Even before the last event of the World Tour, Lenny has made his mark in a fierce competition amongst riders from around the world, soaring ahead of the group with enough points to put him in the lead, without a chance of anyone surpassing him.

Kai is pushing the limit of the sport, but he doesn't want to stop here. Leaving his last event, the Maresias Pro in Brazil, Kai is now on his way back to his home island of Maui to participate in the final event of the American Windsurf Tour at Ho'okipa. Kai is an incredibly diversified waterman.

The entire OXBOW Family is very proud of Kai for all he has accomplished in 2011 already. "We're so proud for all that Kai has done, and we're all excited to finish out the year seeing Kai rock the winter swells in the Pacific," says Matthieu Bazil, OXBOW CEO.

    Congratulations, Kai!

"I'm on top of the world!” said DeSoto. "This is a dream come true, this is what we work so hard for." Desoto had a tough run making into the finals leaving most of the excitement for the last few seconds of competition. "The waves here have been amazing, it's never been flat and we had the best surf in the final, it was perfect," said DeSoto. Coming down to the final seconds of competition, DeSoto was able to catch the winning wave of the day and pull himself into the lead over Jensen, finishing first overall.

  • During the swell of the decade Oxbow Team Rider, Kai Lenny shines as an elite waterman.

AUGUST 31, 2011, HONOLULU - The biggest swell in 15 years rolled in from Tahiti to a challenging reef break off the coast of Maui, and Oxbow team rider Kai Lenny was there to greet it. Performing as the only athlete from Hawaii in the 15 foot mountains of water, Kai took on the challenge of 4 different sports, Stand Up Paddle, Surfing, Windsurfing and Kitesurfing, all in a single day.

    His schedule went as follows:
    Stand Up Paddle - 6:30 A.M.
    Surf - 8:30 A.M.
    Windsurf - 10:30 A.M.
    Kitesurf - 12:30 P.M.

"It was such a gift to have the chance to use all of my gear at the same spot and I could have the chance to surf some of the biggest sets of my life during one Summer session" said the exuberant Lenny.

The break in Maui is a reasonably exposed reef break that is only rideable once in a while. Summer offers the best conditions for surfing. Offshore winds are from the north to northeast. Groundswells and windswells are equally likely while the best swell direction is from the south.

*TEASER OF KAI LENNY in 4 in 1 WILL BE AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 7th on www.oxboworld.com
