During the swell of the decade Oxbow Team Rider, Kai Lenny shines as an elite waterman.
AUGUST 31, 2011, HONOLULU - The biggest swell in 15 years rolled in from Tahiti to a challenging reef break off the coast of Maui, and Oxbow team rider Kai Lenny was there to greet it. Performing as the only athlete from Hawaii in the 15 foot mountains of water, Kai took on the challenge of 4 different sports, Stand Up Paddle, Surfing, Windsurfing and Kitesurfing, all in a single day.
His schedule went as follows:
Stand Up Paddle - 6:30 A.M.
Surf - 8:30 A.M.
Windsurf - 10:30 A.M.
Kitesurf - 12:30 P.M.
"It was such a gift to have the chance to use all of my gear at the same spot and I could have the chance to surf some of the biggest sets of my life during one Summer session" said the exuberant Lenny.
The break in Maui is a reasonably exposed reef break that is only rideable once in a while. Summer offers the best conditions for surfing. Offshore winds are from the north to northeast. Groundswells and windswells are equally likely while the best swell direction is from the south.
